LivU: Live Video Matching on Mobile
Mobile-first video matching is not a smaller version of the desktop one. The phone changes the physics of the conversation — where the camera sits, who else is in the room, how long anyone can hold their arm up.
Five constraints, five consequences
What mobile gets right
Immediacy. A phone is already in your hand, already unlocked, and already has a camera pointed at your face. The distance between "I am bored" and "I am talking to someone" is about four seconds, which no desktop experience can match.
It also produces a more honest picture. Desktop video is staged — a desk, a chair, a set. Phone video is a person on a sofa, and people are noticeably more relaxed on a sofa.
Getting the phone version right
- Prop the phone against something. Free hands change how you talk.
- Raise it to eye level — a stack of books works.
- Face a window or a lamp; never sit with one behind you.
- Headphones, especially in a shared space.
- Wi-Fi where possible: live video is the heaviest thing your phone does.
App or browser?
Mobile-first does not have to mean install-first. A browser gives you the same camera and the same conversation without an icon on your home screen or an account tied to your phone number — the full comparison is in apps versus the browser, and the browser version is here.
justalk.chat is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to LivU or its operators. Nothing above describes that app's current features or availability.
